Scenery is a creative 3D studio that runs inside your own website. It installs into an Astro or Vite project, runs on your machine and reads your repo, so nothing built in it is stored on our servers. Two builders share one place: a scene editor for lights, models and environment, and a page editor for the sections, layout and components the scene sits in.
It started as Refract, an effects engine that exported shader effects and 3D scenes as embeds. Scenery installs into the project instead, so a scene is edited on the page it lives on. Built solo by Dexter, end to end: the UX, the interface, the rendering pipeline and the AI tooling.
A person and an AI agent still work on the same canvas, and there are three ways in. Chat inside the editor on your own key. Connect Claude Code, Cursor or Codex over MCP, and the agent reads the scene and writes straight back to it. Or skip the panel entirely, which the panel itself suggests if you already work in one of those.
Whichever route, an agent's changes arrive as a diff rather than a surprise. Every property it touched is listed with its old and new value, and you keep or revert them. The hard problem was never connecting an AI. It was letting people see exactly what it did.
The AI connection costs nothing extra. Chat runs on your key and MCP runs on your agent's tokens. The developers working through their own agents are how a tool like this spreads, so charging for the connection would have captured a little and given up the distribution.
